September will be here before you know it and I cannot wait. Fall is my favorite time of year and for good reason. School buses return to the roads, cooler temperatures begin to settle in, pumpkin everything appears on menus, and most importantly FOOTBALL IS BACK!
As we enter the tail end of summer, our favorite teams will be heading into training camps and millions of fans will be scouting players – for their fantasy drafts. Fantasy Football has consumed the lives of football fans worldwide, including me. Serving as a virtual general manager of their team, 19 million people play in public and private leagues. Each GM has the power to choose their teams from the ground up in a draft. Every league has different methods of drafting and scoring. Generally, players score points for receptions, touchdowns, rushing yards, stopping the other team, etc.
Everyone has a different strategy for how they choose players and when to play them throughout the season. Most people select running backs and wide receivers first because they score more points. I have selected a quarterback first the last two years. I’ve received a lot of smack talk on this from the other players in my league, but I’ve chosen Cam Newton both years – you can guess how well that turned out.
As the kickoff to football season, the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Weekend is just a few short weeks away. This has me thinking how well my fantasy team would do if it was completely comprised of Pro Football Hall of Famers. That thinking has lead me to this – I give you…
The Pro Football Hall of Fame Experiences Fantasy Football Team
While the game has evolved over the years, these players stand the test of time as the greatest in the game. To make my team I looked at several elements: receptions, touchdowns, rushing yards, receiving yards, and for fun, Pro Bowl count. Each player chosen played in the league nine or more years and each was consistent throughout their tenure.
While each player on my roster is a legend, I would like to point out a few notable men. Dan Marino is my starting quarterback despite having never won a Super Bowl. He completed 420 touchdowns. This proves you don’t have to be a champion to be one of the greatest in the game. James Lofton, a key wide receiver for this team, was the first to score a touchdown in the 1970s, 1980s, and the 1990s. You can meet him on our HOF Cruise in March. Floyd Little is a flex player on my team but was an integral part of the Broncos offense in his time as their first 1,000-yard rusher. He’ll be with us to experience Super Bowl LI this year in Houston.
Since the defense in Fantasy Football is an entire team’s defense this was a bit tricky to pick players. To select this part of my team I looked at sacks, fumble recoveries, touchdowns, and interceptions. Each player on my defense played in the NFL at least 12 years. I will admit, my defense is biased with the selection of Lawrence Taylor, Michael Strahan, and Harry Carson, as I am a huge New York Giants fan. These three are no slouches, though! They have 26 Pro Bowls and 4 Super Bowl rings among them.
The top three players on my defense each bring something different to the table. There is no way, as a child of the 90s, that I could leave Deion Sanders off this roster. The man has 53 interceptions and 2 Super Bowl rings; he is amazing. Speaking of Super Bowl rings, Charles Haley is the only player in NFL history to have FIVE Super Bowl rings. You might have the opportunity to see one at Super Bowl LI in our hospitality where he’ll be spending the day. You may notice, I only have one defensive tackle on the list; while that may seem lopsided, Dan Hampton can handle this position. As a Chicago Bear, he has 57 sacks and a Super Bowl ring. After 12 seasons of hard work, Dan deserves a vacation! He will be soaking up the sun with us in Mexico on our HOF Cruise.
While I will never get to see this team in real action, digging through the stats and selecting my players was quite fun. Each of these men has greatly impacted the game individually. As a whole, they would dominate my Fantasy league each week. These Pro Football Hall of Famers legacies will live on for lifetimes to come.
Be a part of history and join us for Super Bowl LI in Houston. Hang out with Hall of Famers at the Official Pro Football Hall of Fame Pregame Party.
