NFL Power Rankings, Week 6: Patriots and 49ers Remain Unbeaten

By Evan Chronis

Only two undefeated teams remain in the league — the New England Patriots and the San Francisco 49ers.

Could this be a potential 2020 Super Bowl matchup? It's way too early to tell, but Tom Brady facing off against his childhood team in Miami would be quite the headline-grabbing story.

The league saw a lot of movement in Week 5 with the NFC continuing to be a scramble to the top and the Kansas City Chiefs tasting defeat for the first time this season. With that said, there's been some drastic changes to these Power Rankings. For the first time this year, the Patriots and Chiefs aren't slotted together in the 1-2 positions.

But before spoiling too much, here are the official Power Rankings for Week 6 of the 2019 NFL season from HOF Experiences.

NFL Week 6 Power Rankings

1. New England Patriots (5-0)

Last Week’s Ranking: 1

Week 6 Opponent: vs. New York Giants (2-3)

The New England Patriots have shown an uncanny ability to adapt through the first five weeks. Even with an injured offensive line and longtime kicker Stephen Gostkowski on the IR, the Patriots didn't miss a step in their 33-7 win over the Redskins in DC on Sunday.

The blowout win will take its place in the loaded Patriots lore as Tom Brady passed Brett Favre to become third all-time on the league's career passing yards list.

2. New Orleans Saints (4-1)

Last Week’s Ranking: 3

Week 6 Opponent: at Jacksonville Jaguars (2-3)

The Saints are still riding high with backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater under center.

Bridgewater threw for 314 yards and four touchdowns on 26-for-34 passing in New Orleans' 31-24 win over Tampa Bay on Sunday. The win proved that the Saints are not only surviving without Drew Brees, but thriving while their star passer is confined to the sidelines.

3. Kansas City Chiefs (4-1)

Last Week’s Ranking: 3

Week 6 Opponent: vs. Houston Texans (3-2)

It took one tweaked ankle to send shivers down an entire fanbase’s spine.

The Chiefs looked mortal in their 19-13 home loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night after reigning MVP Pat Mahomes picked up a slight ankle injury on a drop back.

The loss highlighted the Chiefs nonexistent run game and the need for playmaker Tyreek Hill to return to the field as quickly as possible.

4. Green Bay Packers (4-1)

Last Week’s Ranking: NR

Week 6 Opponent: vs. Detroit Lions (2-1-1)

Aaron Jones is the real deal in the Green Bay backfield.

The third year back exploded for 107 yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries in the Packers' impressive 34-24 win over the Cowboys in Week 5. Jones' production helped the Packers get out to a whopping 31-3 lead, but they took their foot off the gas pedal, allowing Dak Prescott and the Dallas offense to almost mount a full comeback in the fourth quarter.

With the run game going and Aaron Rodgers heating up as the season progresses, this Packers team might be the biggest threat to the Saints in the conference.

5. San Francisco 49ers (4-0)

Last Week’s Ranking: NR

Week 6 Opponent: at Los Angeles Rams (3-2)

A Week 4 bye was what the 49ers needed to stay perfect as they came back from the week off to dominate the Browns, 31-3, on Monday night.

San Francisco is currently the top team in a loaded NFC West division thanks to the second-best scoring defense in the league led by Richard Sherman and Nick Bosa.

With a stable Jimmy Garoppolo behind center, a dangerous run game and the best defense in the NFC, there's reason to believe that the 49ers are the favorite to take the division crown.
